Timor Sacred Betel Nut Boy

Early wood ancestor figure sacred boy presenting betel nut offering (Areca catchu). Superb and powerful early important museum display masterpiece.

Old label reads:  animist god boy Oecussi Timor. c 1850. Pante Makassar.

Very old Indonesian tropical hard rainforest wood - Sandalwood? Santalum album.

Height 47cm (18 inches) weighs 3 kg (6 lbs).
 
Excellent condition. Deep, dark rich old age incrusted patina. Bumps, scratches, cracks, dust, dirt and scuff marks commensurate with age. Circa 1800s as per label.
